Code, Build, Play! A Fun Way to Learn Robotics!

Meet Sammy, an adorable peanut butter and jelly sandwich robot designed to teach coding fundamentals to children in kindergarten through second grade. This innovative educational tool eliminates the need for digital devices. Instead, children create programs by arranging physical code cards that Sammy reads with its built-in optical scanner as it travels over them.

Once programmed, Sammy navigates custom grid maps, following instructions to move in various directions, activate its mechanical output gear, illuminate its LED, play sounds, and respond to function cards. The unique output gear system allows young engineers to construct simple robotic attachments with moving parts that respond to programmed commands.

Through 30 thoughtfully structured lessons aligned with Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) standards, International Society for Technology Education (ISTE) guidelines, and Code.org curricula, children develop both coding expertise and engineering problem-solving skills. The curriculum progressively introduces six core programming concepts, sequencing, loops, events, conditionals, functions, and variables making it accessible for four year olds with adult guidance while remaining engaging for independent eight-year-old learners.

Beyond Sammy's sandwich adventures, the kit features five additional themed scenarios that reinforce coding principles through playful challenges: guiding a mouse through a cheese maze, directing a penguin around a zoo, helping a soccer player score goals, operating a fire truck to extinguish flames, and programming a factory robot to complete industrial tasks. Each activity is supported by comprehensive, illustrated instructions that seamlessly blend coding education with creative model building!
